TransDermal Technologies Inc. (TTI) leverages its transdermal delivery
technology and formulation skills to address unmet needs of patient
populations with a wide range of local and systemic diseases. Because our
platform technology provides ways to make systemic or localize drug delivery
through human skin, it enables us to explore and develop unique solutions to a
wide range of medication challenges. As we develop our expertise inadministering
a widening range of drugs to and through the skin, we expect to expand our
platform technology to tissue specific delivery. Throughout the Research
section, you will find some examples of how TTI can effectively modulate
transdermal drug penetration using our core technology, Transdermal
Delivery System (TDS®).
TDS® Delivery System
Transdermal Delivery System (TDS®) is a patented mathematical system for
designing a delivery vehicle enabling rapid absorption of drugs through the skin
and repairing damage caused by the flux of the molecule.
How does it work?
TDS® creates an environment around the drug molecule which changes how it
interacts with standard solvents and the skin as it transmigrates the skin.
How is it different?
TDS® employs no covalent bonding in its complexes and projects an optimized
formulation unique to the drug and dose of the drug.
Overview of TDS® Technology
Historically, delivery of drugs through the skin has been limited to a handful of
agents that readily traverse the skin's outermost layer known as the stratum
corneum such as some hormones and a few nitrogen-based compounds. Many
companies offer "patch" delivery systems to deliver these few readily-absorbed
drugs. By comparison, TTI's TDS® is capable of delivering a wide range of drugs
transdermally that are otherwise absorbed only minimally or not at all when
applied to the skin. TDS® enables skin penetration by altering the fluidity of the
lipid layers in the stratum corneum. Those lipids surround the skin cells of the
stratum corneum the way mortar surrounds bricks in a wall. TDS® temporarily
and reversibly alters the alignment of those lipids allowing drug molecules to
slip through. TDS® camouflages the drug protecting it from the skin and the skin
from it. Once the drug is past the skin, it leaves compounds that provide the
building blocks of the elastincollagen matrix.
